Giving birth is daunting enough without having to remember a hundred different things, much less what to bring. Here’s a printable list of what to pack for your hospital visit to make your stay more pleasant:
For Mommy:
- Birth Plan
- Your Who-To-Call List
- Baby Record Book (record baby’s stats, gifts, visitors, etc.)
- Massage Lotion
- Hairclip (to keep those tresses out of your face when pushing)
- Sugarless Candies (to suck on during labour)
- Camera, Memory Cards, and Battery Charger (or your photographer’s phone number on the Who-To-Call list if you’re doing Labour or First Moments Photography)
- Nursing Gown or Pyjamas
- Socks
- House Slippers (make sure they have treads on the bottom to avoid slipping)
- Lots of Underwear (granny panties, no thongs!)
- Nursing Bras or Sports Bras
- Nursing Cover (if you plan on nursing)
- Going Home Outfit (something comfy, especially around the waist since you’ll have a five-month pregnant body afterwards)
- Mp3 player and Portable Speaker (tip: have a playlist ready for the labour)
- Post Delivery Snacks
- Pillow
- Hairbrush
- Lip Balm
- Vitamins
- Toothbrush and Toothpaste
- Shampoo and Conditioner
- Body and Face Wash
- Lotion
- Extra-Absorbent Pads (Poise pads are great!)
- Razor (if you feel up to shaving; I didn’t)
- Deodorant
- Mobile and Charger
- Books and Magazines
- Canvas Bags (a couple for toting gifts and cards home)
For Baby:
- Boppy
- Onesies
- Hats
- Swaddlers
- Pre-Moistened Baby Wipes (the ones at the hospital are dry)
- Special Toys or Stuffed Animals
- Going Home Outfit
And don’t forget to have an infant car seat installed in your car for when you leave. You will not be allowed to leave the hospital without it!
