Creating a custom url for your Facebook fan page. | For Photographers

*This also works for Facebook profiles!

Aside from being asked if your business has a website, the next question is almost always “Are you on Facebook?” While having a Facebook fan page doesn’t replace the importance of a website, utilising social networking is rapidly gaining popularity.

But what happens when you want to tell someone how to find you on Facebook? I don’t know about you, but I hate being told to do a search. There’s bound to be at least five businesses that share your company name worldwide. Well, here’s the simple solution:

After logging into Facebook, go to http://www.facebook.com/username

A drop down menu will appear from which you will choose your fan page.

Enter your desired username. For example, ours is www.facebook.com/BellaMusePhoto (go ahead and give us a “like” while you’re at it).

Usernames can only be assigned once, so make sure you’re happy with it. Don’t make it confusing, since you’ll have to be able to tell people what it is when they ask. Avoid numbers and periods or making it super long – keep it simple! If you’re unable to assign a username right now, it means you don’t have enough fans – you need at least 25 fans to create a personalised url.
